Hi @samnic0207,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Performing a factory reset from the Command Prompt on an HP notebook involves using the systemreset command. This process will restore the notebook to its original factory settings, erasing all personal data, applications, and settings. It is crucial to back up any important data before proceeding, as this action will result in data loss.
Here’s how to perform a factory reset using the Command Prompt:
Steps to Factory Reset HP Notebook from Command Prompt
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
- Press Windows Key + S or click on the search bar.
- Type cmd or Command Prompt.
- Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
Run the System Reset Command
- In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
- This will open the Windows Reset interface, where you can choose to reset your PC.
- If systemreset does not work, try:
- Reset Options:
- After executing the command, you will be prompted to choose between Keep my files or Remove everything. Since you want a factory reset, choose Remove everything.
- If prompted, choose whether to Just remove my files or Remove files and clean the drive. The latter option is more secure but takes longer.
Confirm and Start Reset:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the reset and start the process. The notebook will restart and begin the factory reset process.
- The reset process will take some time. The notebook will restart several times. Be patient and do not interrupt the process.
- After the reset is complete, you will need to go through the initial Windows setup process, including selecting your region, language, and creating a new user account.
Important Notes
- Backup Data: Ensure all important data is backed up before proceeding with the factory reset.
- Power Supply: Ensure your notebook is plugged into a power source during the reset process to prevent any interruptions.
- Software and Drivers: After the reset, you may need to reinstall software and drivers. Check the HP Support website for drivers specific to your notebook model.
If Windows is Unbootable
If you cannot boot into Windows and need to perform a factory reset:
Access Recovery Environment:
- Power Off and On:
- Power off the notebook completely.
- Power it on and immediately press F11 repeatedly (or Esc then F11 on some models) to enter the HP Recovery Manager.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
