I have a Pavilion 15 cd040wm the hard drive totally failed. on week after the waranty expired.  i lost everything.  i purchased a new hard drive and tried to load windows 10,  using the windows media creation tool. after windows downloaded and installed on a usb card as well as a cd,   i did both to be sure,   it failed to load got a blue screen that stated windows could not load because of a missing file.   so how can i reload windows on the new hard drive.

Hi:

If you downloaded the ISO file onto a DVD, did you use software to burn the file to the DVD so that it was bootable?

You can't just copy and paste the file to a DVD.

Use this utility that I zipped up and attached below that will transfer the ISO file to a DVD so that it is bootable.

Another thing is that in order to install Windows from a DVD, you first must go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot.

See this link for the settings to change.
