Hi @ITnovice1
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community.
Yes, it is the hard drive / storage drive. . The test you have done and the error code you provided proves this. Since this is faulty HDD/hardware component, you will probably not be able to recover your files should you need them. If you want to attempt data recovery, please let me know and I may post additional instructions.
You may also consider installing an SSD instead of an HDD - this is strongly recommended as SSDs are way faster, more reliable and lighter. More information about SSDs:
- Since the PC is out of warranty, you will need to buy and replace the disk on your own. No worries, it is not expensive.
- Refer to this official video >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gVB91jUL_U
I would recommend you buy an SSD instead of an HDD.
You need 2.5 inch SSD, type SATA, model/brand of your choice. You may get Samsung, Western Digital (WD), SanDisk, AData, etc... You can get it online or from a local tech store.
Last part - once you replace the faulty HDD component with an SSD or HDD - you will need to reinstall back your operating system
How to do it ? Details are posted in the PDF file below
Let me know how it goes. Provide an update or feedback.
