Hi @cherendra,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop’s fingerprint scanner isn’t working. Here’s a simplified step-by-step approach:

Check Hardware & Basics

  • Make sure your finger and the scanner are clean and dry.
  • Try different fingers to see if the issue is specific.
  • Ensure your laptop supports fingerprint login (most modern HP laptops do).

Check Windows Settings

  • Press Windows + IAccountsSign-in options.
  • Under Windows Hello Fingerprint, see if it’s set up.
  • If you see “Remove” or “Set up”, try re-adding your fingerprint.

Update Drivers

  • Press Windows + XDevice Manager.
  • Look for Biometric devices → expand it.
  • Right-click your fingerprint device → Update driverSearch automatically.
  • If no update works, try uninstalling the device and restarting your laptop (Windows will reinstall it).

Check Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update and make sure your system is fully updated.
  • Sometimes the scanner stops working after a major Windows update and needs a patch.

HP Support Assistant

  • Open HP Support AssistantCheck for updates → install any driver or BIOS updates related to fingerprint scanner or biometrics.

Additional Fixes

  • Turn off Fast Startup:
  • Windows + R → control → Power OptionsChoose what the power buttons do → uncheck Turn on fast startup → restart.
  • Check Group Policy or Windows Security settings (if part of a corporate setup, admin policies might block fingerprint login).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
