Hi @Bex767,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how unsettling it can feel to be locked out of your own laptop, especially when you just want to get back to work or print something important. Let’s get you back in smoothly.

Here’s what you can do to reset your forgotten PIN or password on your HP Stream laptop running Windows 10 or 11:

Option 1: Reset via Microsoft Account (Most Common)

If your laptop is linked to a Microsoft account (like Outlook, Hotmail, or Live), you can reset your password online:

  1. On the lock screen, click “I forgot my password” or “Forgot PIN”.
  2. Follow the prompts to verify your identity (via email, phone, or authenticator app).
  3. Set a new password or PIN.
  4. Once reset, log in with the new credentials.

Option 2: Use Another Admin Account (if available)

If there’s another account with admin rights on the laptop:

  1. Log in to that account.
  2. Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
  3. Select your locked account and choose “Change account type” or “Reset password”.

Option 3: Offline Password Reset (Local Account Only)

If you were using a local account (not linked to Microsoft) and forgot the password:

  • You’ll need to use a password reset disk (if created earlier), or
  • Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt and use advanced recovery tools.

Let me know if you were using a local account, and I’ll guide you through those steps carefully.

A Gentle Reminder

If none of these work, you may need to reset the PC. You can do this without losing files:

  1. On the lock screen, hold Shift and click Restart.
  2. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files.
  3. Follow the prompts to reset and set a new password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
