Hi  @sadikkhan656190

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand that the fingerprint reader stopped working after an update. I'll be happy to help you get this checked and working again.

To better assist you, could you kindly confirm the below details:

  • The exact HP product model - click here for steps
  • Which update was recently installed?
    • Windows Update
    • BIOS update
    • HP Support Assistant update
    • Fingerprint driver update
  • Is the fingerprint option missing completely from Windows Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options?
  • Do you see any error message when trying to use the fingerprint reader?
  • Does the fingerprint sensor appear under Device Manager > Biometric Devices?

In the meantime, kindly try the  below steps and confirm :

Step 1: Check if Windows Hello Fingerprint is Available

  1. Open Settings -Accounts -Sign-in options.
  2. Look for Fingerprint Recognition (Windows Hello).
  3. If available, remove the existing fingerprint and set it up again.

Step 2: Restart the Biometric Service

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. Locate Windows Biometric Service.
  4. Right-click it and select Restart.
  5. Ensure the Startup Type is set to Automatic.

Step 3: Install HP and Windows Updates

  1. Open HP Support Assistant and install all recommended updates.
  2. Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.
  3. Restart the system after all updates are completed.

Step 4: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics - click here for steps

  1. Turn off the PC.
  2. Power it on and repeatedly tap F2.
  3. Run the available component tests and check for any hardware-related errors.

I hope this helps.
