Laptop says Hard disk failure, Short DST: Failed, Long DST: FAILED or WARNING, clicking sounds when turning on. I let someone I know borrow my laptop and the bag that it was in had nerds on the bottom of it. I found this out when I received my laptop back, there were nerds stuck on the sides of where the vent, charging port and what I think is the Kensington lock. While I was cleaning it, it then somehow went to startup menu, i think this is some sort of hard reset but I am unsure. Perhaps I pressed something when I was cleaning out the nerds? I don't know how to fix this and I don't even know if the nerds caused it.

There are times when I do the hard disk check that it says I do not even have a hard disk, I am confused. Please help.

Your hard drive has failed/is failing and will have to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will replace it. If not a retail 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive can be used-Western Digital,Seagate,Toshiba, etc. Not sure the nerds had anyting to do with it- but possibly if he ran it much with nerds blocking the air vents and it overheated.
