Envy 15 TS
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop has a hard drive failure. Problem no recovery disk. I was able to download personnel file to thumb drive. I plan a new hard drive, but not sure what method to reinstall windows 10. Do I go directly to Microsoft and probably pay for windows 10 or does HP have a way. Laptop is not under warranty.

Hi:

If your notebook was made in 2016 or later, it may be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205

You can enter the full product number in the box at the link below to see if your PC is supported by the utility...

If it is not supported, you can reinstall W10 for free by making bootable installation media using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

if you had previously upgraded the notebook to W10 from an older Windows operating system, when you get to the part that asks you to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
