Hi @countrybearusa3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Laptop is asking for the administrator password or power-on password and you don’t know it, here are a few steps you can try.

Reset the BIOS Password:

  • You may need to reset the BIOS password to gain access to your laptop. Here are some options:
    • Clear the CMOS: You can reset the BIOS password by clearing the CMOS. This usually involves opening the laptop and removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes, then replacing it. This step can vary based on the model, so you might want to check the specific instructions for your laptop model online or consult your laptop’s user manual.
    • Password Reset Jumper: Some HP laptops have a jumper on the motherboard that can reset the BIOS password. You’ll need to refer to your laptop's manual for its exact location.

HP’s Password Reset Tools:

  • HP offers a tool for password recovery on their website, especially for cases where you’ve forgotten the BIOS password. Visit HP’s support site and see if your model has specific instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
