Hi @anthony547,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out, and we’re here to help with your HP Pavilion Notebook – 15-ab223cl.

After a system reset, it’s possible that certain built-in drivers or system features related to DVD functionality may not have been restored properly, which can cause your DVD drive to stop working as expected.

1. Check if the DVD Drive is Recognized by Windows

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager
  • Expand the DVD/CD-ROM Drives section
    • If the drive appears, Windows recognizes the hardware
    • If it's missing or has a warning icon (yellow triangle), continue with the next steps

2. Use the Built-in Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot
  • Scroll down and click Additional troubleshooters
  • Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

This may help Windows detect and re-enable the DVD drive.

3. Check for Hidden Devices

  • In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices
  • Look for your DVD drive under DVD/CD-ROM Drives

If it's listed but greyed out, right-click and select Uninstall, then restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall it.

4. Update Windows

Make sure your system is fully updated:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates

This can help reinstall or repair default drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
