Hi @AUDREYCHILU
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your HP Ryzen 5 system is only showing a black screen and you're unable to access the BIOS, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Basic Troubleshooting Steps:
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the computer completely.
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard disks, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery if it's a laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter (and insert the battery if it's a laptop) and try turning it on again.
Check Display Connections:
- If you're using a desktop, ensure the monitor is properly connected to the computer.
- Verify that the cables (HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA) are securely connected to both the computer and the monitor.
- Try connecting to a different display/monitor if possible to rule out display issues.
External Monitor Test:
- If you're using a laptop, connect it to an external monitor to see if the display appears there.
- This can help determine if there is an issue with the laptop's screen.
Reset BIOS Using Jumper or Battery:
- For a desktop, you can try resetting the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery.
- Turn off the computer and unplug it.
- Open the case and locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
- Remove the battery, wait for a few minutes, reinsert it, and try powering on the computer again.
Inspect for Hardware Issues:
- If comfortable, check the inside of a desktop to ensure all components, like RAM and graphics card, are securely seated.
- Loose hardware can sometimes cause display issues.
Try Safe Mode:
- Attempt to boot into Safe Mode to see if the display issues are related to a driver or configuration issue. If the screen is still black, this may be difficult, but it’s worth trying various boot attempts by pressing F8 or Shift + F8 during startup.
Use a Bootable USB:
- If the above steps do not help, create a bootable USB with Windows Recovery tools on another computer.
- Attempt to boot from the USB drive to see if the computer will start and allow for repairs or diagnostics.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might indicate a hardware failure.
