Hi. I unistalled hp support assisant  yesterday--I kept getting pop-ups that I needed to restart my computer, so on the advice of posters I read in hp forums, I uninstalled it. Today, I was just surfing normally and an automatic bios update came up. How do I stop these automatic bios updates from happening? I thought uninstalling support assistant would take care of it.  I've read multiple posts saying not to update the bios, as there was a high probability it would brick my computer.

HP SA probably had already downloaded and started the process of updating BIOS. I really have no idea how to stop it safely at this point if you are getting a message to restart to complete the update.

If it is simply prompting  you to run the update you may be able to delete the sp. file in C:\Swsetup. Check your support page for BIOS update and determine sp. number.

Thank you, CherylG. Next time it pops up, I will cross my fingers and accept the restart. Will having HP SA off my computer stop this from happening again in the future? I've read too many posts from people who updated their BIOS's and it bricked their computers.

Yes, removing HP SA will prevent any further updates to BIOS or drivers/software.
