Hi @packzz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding BIOS update!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To update the BIOS on your HP Pavilion dv6-6c00 laptop, follow these steps carefully. BIOS updates can fix bugs, improve system stability, or support newer hardware, so it's important to do it properly.

Important:

  • Backup your data before updating the BIOS, as any interruptions during the process (like a power failure) can cause serious issues.
  • Make sure your laptop is plugged into a power source during the update.
  • Do not turn off or interrupt the process once it begins.

Steps to Update BIOS on HP Pavilion dv6-6c00

Identify Your Current BIOS Version

Before updating, it’s a good idea to know which BIOS version your system is currently running.

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type msinfo32 and press Enter.
  3. In the System Information window, look for the BIOS Version/Date field. Note the version and date, as you’ll want to ensure that the update you're downloading is newer.

Download the Latest BIOS Update

  1. Go to the HP Support website: HP Support.
  2. In the search box, type HP Pavilion dv6-6c00 and hit Enter.
  3. Go to the Drivers & Downloads section for your specific laptop model.
  4. Select the BIOS category from the list of drivers.
  5. Download the latest BIOS update available (make sure it's newer than your current version).

Prepare the BIOS Update

Once downloaded, the update may come as a .exe file or a zip archive.

  • If it’s a zip file, extract it.
  • If it’s an exe file, you can run it directly.

Double-click the downloaded BIOS update file to launch the update utility.

Update the BIOS

  1. Read the instructions in the update utility carefully.
  2. The utility will likely ask you to confirm that you want to continue with the BIOS update process.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions, and let the update run. Do not power off your laptop during this process.

Restart the Laptop

  1. After the update is complete, your laptop will typically prompt you to restart.
  2. Allow the system to reboot, and the BIOS will be updated.

Check the BIOS Version

  1. Once your laptop reboots, go back to msinfo32 (as mentioned in Step 1).
  2. Check that the BIOS Version/Date field reflects the updated version.

That’s it! If the BIOS update was successful, your laptop should be running with the latest BIOS version. Let me know if you need any further assistance! 😊
