I have an hp Chromebook which I have had for a number of years (2014), the model number is: 14 - q010sa. When I opened it yesterday at first there was a blank screen and now it says "Chrome OS is missing or damaged. Please insert a recovery USB stick or SD card". I tried the chromebook troubleshooting steps and they didn't work so I then tried the Chromebook recovery - I opened Chrome on a different computer and installed the recovery extension. It then said to select a model from the list but this model: 14 - q010sa is not listed on there so I was unable to go any further. There were a few model no 14s but they had different letters after them, we tried one but that didn't work. I took it to a laptop repair shop and they said they couldn't repair it as the drive is built into the motherboard so no data can be retrieved. They also said that they looked for the software to reinstall but the correct package was not available and suggested I contact hp directly. Unfortunately I don't think that I backed up my Chromebook. Is there any way I can retrieve the data and transfer it to a new laptop or do I just have to buy a new laptop and start again. Any help would be most appreciated!
