When I said I is thicker and heavier, I mean it is very slight! If you compare the specs of the m6 (LxWxH) and weight you will see it is extremely slight. The body of the new one is slightly bigger because it has that dvd drive and video card.

Im Having the same issue as described in the thread but on a
HP ENVY 15-q005tx Notebook PC
The common issue seems to be the Control Zone Touchpad.
Im going to be contacting support today for assitance, and in the worst case, a refund.

I am with everyone on this thread that the control zone trackpad is faulty. I saved up a grand to be able to buy a decent laptop... and best buy were out of the one I wanted (Asus q551ln), so I ended up with an HP Envy M7 (although I thought I was getting the 360 one, they gave me the wrong one to begin with). I figured I'd live with it b/c it was a nice laptop with great specs. However, I couldn't tolerate the terribly designed trackpad. I returned it within 48 hours to a different Best Buy location and got the Asus q551ln I had originally wanted. I'm much happier with the laptop I have now.
I'm not saying this to disparage the HP Envy m7. It is a very well-designed product, and the control zone trackpad is a nice idea, but it's implementation is terrible. I am a very easy going person (I'll use workarounds or whatever if I have to) but I just couldn't deal with it. It was far too frustrating to try to do even simple tasks, like selecting multiple files (ok) and then clicking them to drag them (not ok, would open a single file instead of accomplishing what I needed it to). I changed the settings, installed & reinstalled drivers. I did everything I could think of to make the trackpad usable, but in the end it just wasn't. I really hope HP fixes the control zone trackpad because if it worked properly it would be amazing.

I received my NEW unit 4 days ago..and so far the touchpad has been perfect. its a great machine too. my m6-n012dx was replaced for a Envy 15-k220nr.
i would recommend everyone having problems to return they computers if they can. if they cant, i suggest you try and send it for repair at least 2 times. according to one of HPs representative i spoke with, you need to sent your unit at least 3 times before they consider replacing your unit for another one. I sent mine twice, but i made sure before send it a third time i talk to a case manager.
The interesting thing to note here is that HP is well aware of this problem. talking with the case manager i asked her what would happen if the new unit i was to receive had the same problem with the touchpad. what should i do.all she said was that she didnt know. that this is a hit or miss thing. because some computers have this problem and others dont..and some are able to be fixed by adding some aluminum cover to the cables etc. and others dont. She told me to use a mouse. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! anyways, i thought about my options myself and if i have the problem again, at least this machine is new and has another year of warranty, and you best believe that if i have problems i will send it back for repair.

I have a Hp envy M6 and the control zone is pissing me off so much that I sometimes wanna smash it, like honestly it randomly just closes documents when I am not even touching the control zone...needless to say I contacted HP and they believed it was a software problem, tried many things but still nothing worked so they offered to get it repaired but the thing is I am in Canada and the laptop was bought in US. Apparently warranty only works for the country it was purchased in so I have to send it to my sister in the states, HP will only cover up to $75 for shipping, which I doubt will cover both sending and returning back to me.
Has anybody ever sent the laptop in for repair and the problem was fixed?

After you receive it back it might work for an hour, six hours, couple of days etc but eventually sooner rather than later the problem comes back.
My advise to you is: if you are going to send it make sure you state, in a sheet of paper they provide for u to state the problems your having, that you want the touchpad replaced. I know even after changing your touch pad the problem will come back eventually, but at least when you have to fight for a new replacement laptop you can use the fact that the touch pad was replaced as a leverage.
