A small problem remains, why the device can not read the memory card (SD)even though it sounds when inserted into the dedicated slot

Try a different SD card.  

There is normally a size limit regarding how big of a storage size will work, and I don't know what it is on your model.

I am trying to read a standard 1 GB microSD memory card

If it worked before, unfortunately, I wouldn't know why it isn't working.

If you never tried a micro SD card in the adapter, it may not be compatible.

Try a standard 1 - 8 GB SD card.

Find an old digital camera and try a 'normal size' SD card from it.

I think it will work just fine.

I figured as much.

I had an older notebook where the micro SD card in the adapter didn't work.

It worked in my newer notebook I bought in 2015.
