Hi @shushil2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Severe glitches in your HP Envy 16 can be caused by several factors, ranging from software conflicts, outdated drivers, or hardware issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.
Update Your Graphics Drivers
- Glitches can often be tied to outdated or corrupted graphics drivers.
- Visit Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X > select Device Manager > expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your GPU (either Intel or NVIDIA/AMD) and choose Update driver.
- Alternatively, go to HP’s support website or the GPU manufacturer (Intel/NVIDIA/AMD) to download the latest drivers.
Run Windows Update
- Ensure that your system is up to date with the latest patches and updates from Microsoft.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > click Check for updates.
Check for Corrupted System Files
- Run System File Checker to repair any corrupted system files:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
- Let the scan complete and follow any prompts.
Check for Hardware Issues
- Run HP Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 during startup to enter HP’s hardware diagnostic tool.
- Run comprehensive tests for both memory and hard drive/SSD to ensure no hardware issues are causing the glitches.
Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs
- Excessive background programs can lead to performance glitches.
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc, go to the Startup tab, and disable any unnecessary programs.
Reinstall/Repair Display Drivers
- If updating the drivers didn’t help, try completely uninstalling and reinstalling them:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Right-click your display driver and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall the basic display drivers.
- Then, download and install the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s site.
Check for Overheating
- If your laptop is overheating, it can cause glitchy behavior.
- Ensure your vents are clear, and use cooling pads if necessary.
- You can also monitor CPU/GPU temperatures using tools like HWMonitor.

Update BIOS
- Outdated BIOS can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
- Visit HP’s official support website, download the latest BIOS update for your Envy 16, and carefully follow the instructions for installation.
Perform a Clean Boot
- To rule out third-party software conflicts, perform a clean boot:
- Press Windows + R > type msconfig.
- Go to the Services tab > check Hide all Microsoft services > click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
- Restart your laptop and see if the issue persists.
Reset Windows (if nothing else works)
- If the glitches persist, you can reset Windows to its default state:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
- Under Reset this PC, click Get started.
- You can choose to keep your files or remove everything.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
