Hi @micah7754,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is turning on briefly and then shutting off with a red blinking hard drive light, it could indicate a hardware issue, possibly related to the hard drive or another component. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Remove External Devices: Disconnect any peripherals (USB drives, external keyboards, mice, etc.) and try powering on the laptop again.
Power Reset:
- Turn off the laptop and unplug the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (if possible).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery and plug in the power adapter, then try to turn it on.
Check RAM:
- If you're comfortable doing so, try reseating the RAM modules. Remove them and then reinsert them firmly.
- If you have multiple RAM sticks, try booting with one stick at a time to see if one of them is faulty.
Inspect Hard Drive:
- Ensure the hard drive is properly connected. If you're comfortable opening the laptop, check the hard drive connection.
- If you have access to another computer, consider testing the hard drive there or using a USB hard drive enclosure.
Listen for Beeps:
- If your laptop emits any beep codes when trying to start, note the pattern. These codes can help identify the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
