Hi @cooploop23,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop upgrade!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you plan to upgrade an HP 2000 series laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 10 and need to check the system specifications, here’s how to proceed:

System Requirements for Windows 10

First, ensure your system meets the minimum requirements for Windows 10:

Processor:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster compatible processor or System on a Chip (SoC)

RAM:

  • 1 GB for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit

Hard Disk Space:

  • 16 GB for 32-bit OS or 32 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics Card:

  • DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver

Display:

  • 800 x 600

Checking System Specifications on HP 2000 Series Laptop

Given that your hard disk and Windows 8 installation are crashed, use the following steps if you can still boot into BIOS or use external tools:

Access BIOS:

  • Restart your computer and press F10 (or the appropriate key) repeatedly at startup to enter the BIOS setup utility.
  • In the BIOS, you can find detailed information about your processor, RAM, and some hard disk details.

Using External Tools:

  • Bootable USB Drive:
    • Create a bootable USB drive using a utility like Rufus and download a lightweight Linux distribution (like Ubuntu) or a Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment).
    • Boot from the USB drive and use system information tools within the live environment to get details about your hardware specifications.
  • Disk Utility:
    • If the hard disk is functional enough, use tools like GParted in Linux live environments to check the storage status.

Upgrade Steps

Check Health of Hardware:

  • Use the tools mentioned above to ensure your system's hardware is in good condition, especially after the crash. Consider replacing the hard disk if it's faulty.

Backup Important Data:

  • Before proceeding with any upgrade or fresh installation, ensure all important data is backed up from the existing hard drive if accessible.

Windows 10 Installation:

  • Download the latest Windows 10 ISO file from the Microsoft website.
  • Use the Media Creation Tool provided by Microsoft to create a bootable USB for Windows 10 installation.
  • Boot from the USB and follow the on-screen instructions for a clean installation of Windows 10.

I hope this helps.
