Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion 15-cw1007la notebook.
I updated the BIOS, and it's stuck in a loop. It says the BIOS is updating, but then it displays an error message saying "BIOS IMAGE FAILED" and returns to the beginning. I tried updating it using a USB drive with the BIOS files on it, but it's not recognized. I downloaded them from the official HP website with the correct model number (I also tried the Windows key + B and power button combination), but it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to get out of this loop, or if anyone has an older or newer BIOS version that might help? I've tried everything.

Thank you very much for your

The operating system I use is Windows 10 x64

I tried all the BIOS versions from the official HP website, obviously for my model. None of them worked.

Hi @boddah2555,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If your HP Pavilion 15-cw1007la is stuck in a BIOS update loop, with an error message indicating "BIOS IMAGE FAILED", here are steps you can take to try to resolve the problem:

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove the AC adapter.
  • Remove the battery if it is removable.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds. This will release any residual power and reset the hardware.

 Reset BIOS to Default

  • If you have access to the BIOS setup utility, you can reset it to default settings.
  • Restart the laptop, immediately press 'Esc' or 'F10' repeatedly to enter BIOS setup.
  • Once in the BIOS, look for a "Setup Defaults", "Load Setup Defaults" and select it.

Update BIOS as downloaded as per your Operating System.

Dear Sir, this did not work. I opened the laptop, removed the battery, and pressed the power button for 15 to 30 seconds but nothing happened; it remained the same. Do you have any other recommendations besides all the ones I've already made? I tried updating it with a USB drive containing the BIOS image from their website. However, this image from their website isn't working. I think there's a problem with it because I read somewhere that this BIOS image from their website hasn't worked for anyone else. I need a solution that doesn't involve changing the motherboard or replacing and reprogramming the BIOS chip. Do you have any BIOS version other than the one from the official HP website? Hopefully one of those later versions will work to update my BIOS. HELP PLS!!!

Hi,

Thank you for the update. I know how frustrating it is when the system is stuck in a BIOS recovery loop even after you’ve tried the standard steps. Since the usual methods didn’t work, let’s try a few deeper recovery options to see if we can bring the system back.

Try the Full UEFI Hardware Diagnostics
– Power off the notebook.
– Press the power button and immediately tap F2.
– Run the System Tests → Firmware Management → BIOS Rollback (if available).
– This option forces the system to search for any previously stored BIOS version in the embedded controller.

Attempt BIOS Recovery Using the HP BIOS Recovery Tool
– On a different working Windows PC, download the same BIOS SoftPaq.
– Run the installer → when it opens, select Create Recovery USB.
– This option appears only when the system detects a USB drive and generates additional recovery files not included in the standard package.
– Insert the USB into your Pavilion → press Windows + B and hold for 5–10 seconds → then power it on.
– Keep holding the keys until the recovery screen appears.

Use the Alternate Key Combination
– If Win + B doesn’t trigger BIOS recovery, try Windows + V.
– Hold the keys → press Power → keep holding for 10–15 seconds until you hear beeps or see the recovery message.

Test with a Different USB Format
– Use a 16GB or smaller USB drive (BIOS recovery is sensitive to size).
– Format it as FAT32 only.
– Place only the BIOS recovery files created by HP’s tool.
– Plug it into the left USB port, not through a hub.

I hope this helps.
