Hi @Muhawe,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0x80073712 on Windows usually indicates a problem with the Windows Update system. If your HP Pavilion 15 is experiencing this issue along with occasional shutdowns, here are some steps you can take to address the problem.

Solution for Error Code 0x80073712:

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:

  • Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
  • Go to "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
  • Run the "Windows Update Troubleshooter" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Reset Windows Update Components:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator. Right-click the Start button, select "Command Prompt (Admin)."
  • Type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

Check for System File Corruption:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Run the following command to scan and repair system files: sfc /scannow

Check Disk Utility:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Run the following command to check and repair disk errors: chkdsk /f

Manually Download and Install Updates:

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that your device drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

Solution for Laptop Shutting Down:

If your laptop is shutting down on its own, this may be unrelated to the update issue. Here are some general steps to troubleshoot unexpected shutdowns.

Check for Overheating:

  • Make sure your laptop is not overheating. Clean the vents and ensure proper airflow.

Scan for Malware:

  • Run a full antivirus scan to check for malware or viruses that could be causing issues.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date.

Check Power Settings:

  • Review your power settings to make sure there are no settings causing the laptop to shut down unexpectedly.

Run System Diagnostics:

  • HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostics. You can run these to check for hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
