Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is bizarre. Went to boot up one day and got no further than the HP logo screen.  Just keeps circling. Bringing up F11 and choosing Startup Repair produces only the message, 'Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC.' While System Restore produces the message, 'To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore.' ??? BitLocker kept coming up for a while asking for the Recovery Key, but it no longer does. (I've been working on this for 2 days.)  I downloaded the most up-to-date BIOS driver from HP, created a USB and installed it. Worked fine. I downloaded the Windows 10 repair/install file from Microsoft, created a USB and selected the system to boot from USB in BIOS, and while that boot process functioned, and the Windows Repair program comes up, the pc will not allow Windows to either install or repair. Now the clock in BIOS is off. I'm getting that CMOS Checksum error, as well. I did try hitting the Windows key and first the 'V' key, and then the 'B' key, hoping this would enact a simple reset of the CMOS. No dice. And I have no idea where on the board the CMOS on one of these things is located, as it's not a battery but a jumper. Additionally, I ran hardware tests that produced no errors. Hardware seems mostly A O.k. So, I'm thinking the issue lies either with CMOS or Windows or BitLocker. Like I said, this is bizarre. My $2,000 pc is just a brick, now.

Has anyone else seen this, and was there a resolve better than opening up the pc and looking around for the CMOS? I just don't want to have to pay Best Buy $200, if I can resolve this myself.

And thanks by the way for any assistance you can offer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

To Fix CMOS Checksum Bad Error we can Perform an Automatic Repair, Reset BIOS to Factory Default, Update BIOS and last is Replace the CMOS Battery.

Let me know if this helps.

per my above message, Automatic Repair doesn't really produce a resolve. I have additionally rest the BIOS to factory default, and this also did not produce a resolve. I then updated the BIOS, and this also did not produce a resolve. This device does not have a CMOS battery. It has a CMOS jumper, which I am still attempting to locate.

I am afraid my $2,000 nearly new laptop is a useless doorstop at this moment. And I suspect this is due to a bad update of some sort, pushed by HP. This will likely be the LAST HP that I ever purchase.
