hello --- most of the time I use the "support assistant" to download and install updates --- this time I manually an update and applied it manually --- the next time I ran the "support assistant"   it had than same update in in its lists to apply again --- why did it not "see" that that update was already installed?

when I applied the update, it unpacked itself in SWSETUP were all the applied update are unpacked

Hello @fpefpe

Welcome to the HP Support Community !

Probook is a business/professional class device. For business class computers, please use HP Image Assistant to check for and install updates >> https://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HPIA.html

Hello -- thanks for the info but I am confused   I had this computer for a few years now and it the "support assistant" was the tool that was (pre) installed on the machine -- so now I need to install the Image Assistant?

You can use either of them or both of them.

HP Support Assistant is slightly more user friendly, more consumer friendly, it can also deliver messages and tips & tricks in a more user-friendly way. However, HP Support Assistant can only update drivers already installed.

HP Image Assistant is more professional tool, designed for commercial (business class) computers only. It is an essential tool that provides assistance to tech savvy users and IT System Administrators to improve the quality and security of their HP PCs running Microsoft Windows by analyzing, identifying problems, and recommending solutions. With HPIA you can install drivers, apps, BIOS, essential system updates for Windows and recommended settings.

My personal choice and recommendation for business class computers (like your Probook) is HP Image Assistant.

If you want, you can install it and test it. It is simple and light.

Hello --- thanks for the info ---- I downloaded and   installed it from the specified link, but I was confused where it was installed ---   when I ran hp-hpia-5.0.4. it unpacked it into the SWSETUP folder were hp update are save with name sp112809 -- but it did not put anything in "program files" folder --- I had to run it from SWSETUP.SP112809.HPImageAssistant --- what did I miss --- is this how it works?   BTW thx for the video, but the speaker was not speaking in English

Hi @fpefpe

You are most welcome !

Yes, this is how it works. It basically extracts itself into C:\SWSETUP\SP112809\

It does not put anything in Program files on in other popular locations.

You can occasionally run it from this location. Check for new updates 2-3 times per year, no need to do it more frequently... and enjoy your computer 👍
