Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently came up with the need to install a linux system on my computer, after downloading ubuntu and creating a boot drive, I started my computer by pressing f9 and a black screen with some installation options appeared. To my surprise, after clicking one of these options, nothing happened at all, the computer was still on but with the black screen. I tried to change the flash drive but it didn't work, I tried to download another version of the system and even other linux distributions like debian and mint, but the problem remained. I think the problem is related to the boot settings or something, but I'm not sure, the photo that sege is generic (I picked up the internet) but it's basically the same thing that appears to me. how can i solve this?4446301dac4966ebaa0f3b9210fd85bd0a897543.jpeg

@mackhyuuga

I'm sorry, but we here are not equipped to provide detailed Linux support.

HP only warranties their PCs for usage with the OS that comes preinstalled. IF you replace that with Linux, or add a Linux OS, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- as HP provides Linux assistance only on Redhat and then only to commercial customers.

The primary "challenge" to using Linux on any HP PC is the availability of Linux drivers. Any hardware that does not work will then range from simple (if there are Linux drivers available) to impossible (if there are NO Linux drivers available) to fix.

Since HP does not provide Linux drivers, your best bet for Linux support is to contact the support forum for the Linux distro you are using.

Folks on Linux support forums have experience using a variety of machines with Linux and know a lot about driver and installation issues. You will be able to get sound and detailed help there.

Good Luck

Hi, @mackhyuuga

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot.

See this link for the settings to change...

https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03736054/

Then with the Linux USB installer in the USB port, turn on or restart the PC, immediately tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that select the Legacy USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard drive, and press the enter key.

Hopefully the PC will then boot from the Linux installer.

Hi

Is there still a Windows OS installed?

The default for W10 is Secure Boot and GPT, sometimes Linux will want Legacy boot as Paul mentions.

So do you want...

DUAL or Single boot?

In the BIOS you may have an option for Boot Manager...

Boot Man x 5.jpg

If so move Windows to the top position.

If in doubt please ask (also a few more details may help).
