my husband passed away last year and this is the first time I've tried to get in our laptop only to.find out that he put a password on it to start up.  now it won't let me on the co m outer cause i i my know his microsoft password and cannot access his email account in order to reset it.  i don't care if i lose all the data stored in the computer i just want to be able to use it.  it is a envy m6 model with windows 8 however i don't know if he installed an update before he passed.

To reset the windows password , you should try the microsoft web site like this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4490115/windows-change-or-reset-your-password
