I have tried to use the manual driver download option to obtain the required drivers for my laptop but the webpage loops back every time to offer the Download assistant.

Hi:

 

I'm not quite sure that I understand the problem.

 

If you want to manually select each driver from the support page, just click on the blue line on the bottom of that window...

 

No thanks, I will download and install manually.

 

Works for me on every HP driver support page that way.
