The original hard disk drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SSD) that comes with a specific model like the HP EliteBook 840 G6 can vary based on the configuration chosen at the time of purchase. HP typically offers various storage options for their laptops, allowing customers to choose between different capacities and types (HDD or SSD).

To identify the manufacturer of the original storage device on your HP EliteBook 840 G6, you can follow these steps:

1. Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • In Device Manager, expand the "Disk drives" category.
  • Look for the specific disk drive listed (it may include the brand name).

2. Check System Information:

  • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  • Type "msinfo32" and press Enter to open System Information.
  • In the left pane, navigate to "Components" > "Storage" > "Disks."
  • Look for the details of your storage device, including the manufacturer.

3. Check BIOS/UEFI:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. The key to access the BIOS varies (common keys include Esc, F1, F2, or Del).
  • Navigate to the storage or drive information section. This may provide details about the installed hard drive.

4. Physical Inspection:

  • If you're comfortable with opening the laptop (or have a technician do so), you can physically inspect the storage device. The brand and model are often printed on the label.

Verifying If Parts Have Been Changed:

If you suspect that any components, including the storage device, have been changed or upgraded, you can follow these additional steps:

1. Review Purchase Records:

  • Check any purchase records, invoices, or documentation related to your laptop. Original specifications are often mentioned in purchase documents.

2. HP Support Assistant:

  • Use HP Support Assistant, a pre-installed software on HP laptops, to check for details about the original configuration. It may provide information about the initial components.

3. HP Parts Store:

  • Visit the HP Parts Store website and enter your laptop's serial number. This can provide details about the original configuration and parts.

4. Contact HP Support:

  • Reach out to HP Support with your laptop's serial number. They may be able to provide information about the original components.

If you're unable to find the information using these methods, reaching out to HP support with your laptop's serial number is a reliable way to get accurate details about the original configuration and components of your HP EliteBook 840 G6.
