Over a day ago i attempted to use a System recovery usb drive on my 3 year old laptop. Prior to that, nearly everytime i attempted to use it, it would crash almost immediately after i logged in. Its been doing that for about 2 months now and seemed to be getting progressively worse. Before this, when this was much more new, i had dropped the computer and broke the screen and did not get to have it fixed until several months ago. Now, my issue is getting onto the laptop at all. I have the usb in the laptop, and everytime i open it a blue screen reads: The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons: Save Log, Details" and "Retry" i tried the Retry button, it turns the laptop off, restarts and goes back to the blue screen. I try Save Log, and it says "This feature will collect information from your computer to aid HP in diagnosing the issue. Insert a USB hard drive with at least 2 MB of free space, then click OK" i currently have the Recovery USB with 16GB inserted. And when i click OK it shuts down, restarts, back to screen. I no longer want to do the system recovery. Id just want to get the laptop working again. I hope my explination was clear enough and easy to follow along.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to clean install W10 by creating a bootable USB installer with the media creation tool at the link below.  You will need an 8 GB USB flash drive for this.

You want W10 64 bit.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
