Hi @phoenixx1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for describing the issue clearly—seeing that message can be alarming, especially when everything else seems to power on normally.

If your HP Envy 16-h1023dx laptop reaches diagnostics and reports “Can’t find operating system,” it likely means the system can’t detect a valid bootable drive. This can happen due to BIOS misconfiguration, SSD failure, or a corrupted OS. Let’s walk through a recovery process to bring it back to life.

Here’s how to troubleshoot it step by step:

Step-by-step recovery

Perform a hard reset

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove any connected peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and turn it on.

Check BIOS boot settings

  • Immediately press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Go to System Configuration > Boot Options.
  • Confirm that:
    • Boot Mode is set to UEFI (not Legacy).
    • Secure Boot is enabled.
    • The internal SSD is listed under boot devices.
  • If the SSD is missing, it may indicate a hardware fault.

Run HP diagnostics

  • From the diagnostics page, select Component Tests > Storage > SSD Test.
  • Let it complete and note any error codes.
  • If the SSD fails, it may need replacement or re-seating.

Attempt BIOS recovery

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release all keys and wait to see if the BIOS recovery screen appears.
  • Follow on-screen instructions if available.

Create a Windows recovery USB

  • On another PC, download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool:
    Windows 11 Installation Media
  • Create a bootable USB drive.
  • Insert it into your HP Envy and power on while pressing Esc, then F9 to select boot device.
  • Choose the USB drive and follow prompts to repair or reinstall Windows.

Let me know if the SSD appears in BIOS or if diagnostics return any specific error codes—I can help interpret them and guide next steps.
