What is needed to update the OS in this old Pavilion laptop.  I have one that is in mint condition and would like to revive it to be a little more practical.  It was running Vista and would like to be able to run Win 10 if possible.  I have removed the original HDD and installed a much larger SSD 1 Tb drive.  Tried installing Win 7 and Win 10 with no luck with either.  Says it needs drivers but its not specific as to WHICH drivers... though it says I need one for the optical drive.  (I'd guess its probably due for a BIOS update as well).

A few more specifics....

It has an Intel Centrino Duo processor, 2Gb of RAM, Intel graphics and originally had the Microsoft Vista OS.

Which screen says it need drivers for that? Post image. You ram is too low. I suggest you to upgrade it and it can run windows 10 properly after some optimization like debloat, etc.

What is the full model number or product number of your dv9000?

Exactly what model Intel processor does it have?

The dv9000 - dv9400's may not support a SSD because the drive controller is only SATA I, and most SATA SSDs are only backward compatible to SATA II.

The dv9500s and up should be able to support a SSD because the drive controller is SATA II

What media are you using to install W7 or W10?  A USB flash drive or DVD?

How did you make the media, or is it Microsoft factory media?

The PC can run W10, but I have never heard of anyone that had a problem with needing drivers when first trying to install Windows.
