Hi, just one helpful point I can add if the new set up from enabled USB stick will not work promptly (... freezen screen with hp logo (or similiar) )... Just try another USB port on the used computer ... I was already getting desperate because the USB stick I ve created with the media creation tool from MS wouldn't start.
After changing to the 2nd port (latest notebooks luckily having only '2' .. ... set up started promptly !

Hi @Joachim-717,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand that you're having trouble using the USB drive for recovery on your PC. I’m sorry you’re facing this issue. Could you let me know if you’re seeing any error messages when changing the USB port or during the installation process? This will help determine whether it's a USB issue, a BIOS setting, or a problem with the recovery media itself.
In the meantime, you can try these steps:
- Try a different USB port – Preferably a USB 2.0 port if available.
- Check if the USB is properly formatted – It should be in FAT32 format for recovery purposes.
- Create a new recovery USB – If possible, use another PC to recreate the recovery media.
- Verify BIOS Boot settings – Ensure that USB Boot is enabled in BIOS.
Let me know what happens, and I’ll be happy to assist further
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
