Hi @stephenbabs42,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your internal HP Wide Vision HD camera is being recognized by your system, but when you turn it on, it only blinks and the screen remains black. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Restart your laptop
– Sometimes a simple restart clears temporary software conflicts preventing the camera from displaying video.
– After restarting, open the camera app and check if it works.

Check camera privacy settings
– On Windows: go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
– Make sure apps are allowed to access the camera and your preferred app has permission.

Close other apps using the camera
– If another app is using the camera, it may block new apps from accessing it.
– Close apps like Skype, Teams, Zoom, or browser tabs that may be using the camera.

Update or reinstall camera drivers
– Open Device Manager → Cameras → HP Wide Vision HD Camera → Update Driver.
– If updating doesn’t help, right-click → Uninstall device, then restart the laptop; Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Check for conflicting software
– Some antivirus or third-party camera software can block the camera.
– Temporarily disable these to see if the camera starts working.

Test with another app
– Try using the camera in multiple apps (Camera app, Zoom, Teams).
– If it works in one app but not another, the issue may be app-specific.

Perform a system update
– Ensure Windows/macOS is fully updated; some updates fix camera bugs.
– On Windows: Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update → Check for updates.

I hope this helps.
