I installed the HP Support Assistant. If I try to check for updates with my battery in my computer shuts off. If I take the battery out I get this error message.
************** Exception Text **************
System.Xml.XmlException: Invalid XML document. The document does not have a root element.
at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Save(String filename)
at HPSSFUpdater.UpgradeUpdater.IsUpdateNeeded()
at HPSSFUpdater.View.MainWindow._bgWorker_DoWork(Object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e)
at System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker.OnDoWork(DoWorkEventArgs e)
at System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker.WorkerThreadStart(Object argument)
Now my computer randomly shuts down. How do I fix?

Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are getting invalid xml document message when you run HP Support Assistant. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,
When did this issue start?
Did you do any hardware or software changes?
Meanwhile
Uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manager
- Click Start
, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. - Click Continue. The Device Manager dialog box is displayed.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. - In the list of device types, click the kind of device, and then locate the specific device that is not functioning.
- Right-click the device, and then click Properties.
- Click the Battery Driver tab.
- Click Uninstall.
- Click OK.
- In the Device Manager dialog box, click the Action menu, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
- You may receive a message that states that Windows has to install driver software for your unknown device. If you receive this message, click Locate and install driver software (recommended).
- You may also receive a message that states that a hardware device is being installed and that the uninstalled device is now present in Device Manager.
Update the Bios
Click here and refer the document to update the bios.
Run test and calibrate the battery
Follow the HP Document to run test on the battery.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers.

My problem started as a random shut down problem. Nothing new installed. I tried testing my battery and my computer shut off. I replaced the battery. Recalibrated it. Uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it. Updated BIOS. Uninstalled the HP Assistant and reinstalled. Can't run the HP Assistant and if I do a battery test my computer shuts down. Also will randomly shut down if I have the battery in but not if I run on the ac.
