Hi @jannieannie,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which HP laptop model you’re using?
  • Are you running Windows 10 or Windows 11?
  • Did the backlight stop working suddenly, or has it never turned on since you purchased the laptop?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Check the Keyboard Shortcut
    • On most HP laptops, the backlight is toggled using Fn + F4 (sometimes Fn + F5 or another key with a keyboard light icon).
    • Try pressing the key combination to see if the light comes on.
  2. Adjust BIOS Settings
    • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS setup.
    • Look under Advanced or System Configuration to confirm that Keyboard Backlight is enabled.
  3. Update Drivers
    • Open Device Manager → expand Keyboards.
    • Right‑click your keyboard driver → Update driver.
    • You can also run HP Support Assistant to check for updates.
  4. Perform a Power Reset
    • Shut down the laptop, disconnect the power adapter.
    • Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then reconnect and restart.

I hope this helps.
