HP Stream - 14-ax020nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

hi, i have an old HP Stream - 14-ax020nr. for some reason, the keyboard only allows me to type my password to log into the laptop but after that, i can’t type anything. i’ve tried so many different things but nothing has resolved the issue. i can use the keyboard to adjust the volume and brightness but can’t type. i have tried an external keyboard and that did not work either.

Has this always been the case, or is this something new?

You just can't type on the keyboard at random, you have to be in a function that will accept keyboard input.

What functions or apps are you using that won't allow you to type anything?

hi, the laptop used to work fine and it is a new issue. the keyboard allows me to adjust the brightness and volume, type my password to log in, but if i try typing on the window search bar, in google, in microsoft edge, anything - it won’t type any words.

OK, understand.  Don't know what else to tell you as the usual approach with laptop keyboard issues is to try an external keyboard -- but you have already done that.

You said this is new, so if it is still under warranty, you should contact where you bought it and see about returning it for a refund.  You paid for something that works, so it should -- without these issues.

Good Luck

Sorry, I meant the issue is new. I’ve had the laptop for around 10 years so it’s out of warranty unfortunately. thanks for your help though!
