Hi @aitzaz0786,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the keys QWER and UIOP on your HP laptop's keyboard are not working, this could be caused by a hardware or software issue. Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
Restart Your Laptop
- Restart your laptop to see if the issue is temporary.
- Check if the keys work after rebooting.
Test the Keyboard in BIOS
- Shut down your laptop.
- Turn it back on and press the F10 key repeatedly (or the designated key for your model) to enter the BIOS setup.
- In the BIOS menu, try pressing the QWER and UIOP keys.
- If the keys don’t work in BIOS, the issue is likely hardware-related.
- If they do work in BIOS, the issue is likely software-related.
Update or Reinstall the Keyboard Driver
Update Drivers:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
- Follow the prompts to update the driver.
Reinstall Drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click the keyboard and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the keyboard for visible signs of dirt, debris, or damage.
- If there’s dirt:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Gently clean the keyboard using compressed air or a soft brush.
Use an External Keyboard
- Connect an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard.
- Check if the problematic keys work with the external keyboard.
- If they do, the issue is with your laptop's keyboard.
- If they don’t, it may be a system-level issue.

Test with On-Screen Keyboard
- Press Windows + Ctrl + O to open the On-Screen Keyboard.
- Click on the QWER and UIOP keys to test functionality.
- If these work with the On-Screen Keyboard, it points to a hardware issue.
Run Hardware Diagnostics
- Press Esc during startup and then select System Diagnostics.
- Run a keyboard test to check for hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
