Just surfing to see if I could help someone out and came across your post. While computers are a bit of a hobby for me, my profession centers around communication of all types. I hope that you find my response useful.

The people on this forum are more likely to engage with someone when they describe a problem and ask for assistance. The lack of response may be due to the tone of your post. I would delete this post and start fresh with a post that has the model and describes the symptoms so that others can help you troubleshoot the problem and identify a solution.

You might make some friends.

thank you for kind advice. if you surf a bit more you wil see that there are very few solutions offered by anyone on this site. being friendly and nice will not help, being direct with hp may, that's why you are here?

Actually, the community was not able to solve the problem I had. But they were able to direct me to the resources I would need to get my computer operating again. Had I followed their instructions, rather than my own assumptions, the repair would have been made sooner. I learned a lot in the process, though, and added the solution I worked out in my final post.

Being direct is often appreciated but this post is not about a technical problem. Instead, it is criticism of both the Forum and HP.

Remember, HP is not the problem; the component or software or setting is. The forum (many are users, like yourself) gives you access to knowledge that can be obtained only through years of experience. All we have to do is ask.

yes that's great advice. I have unfortunately 17 years experience using HP products  on/off. In all cases it was hardware issues that caused failure. HP as the manufacturer is responsible for resolving the "component" problem,  especially under warranty. This could only be in their best interest to resolve this issue i have, but they make it difficult/impossible to contact them through their normal channels and tools (even here it seems). This is all extremely frustrating and time consuming. The corporates don't care, instead they employ you to pacify their customers with your great communication skills..  I have asked, but only get your response to my "tone" instead of technical advice!
