Hi @619lt,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Pavilion DV8t-1100 CTO Entertainment Notebook may be experiencing some hardware issues, particularly with the display or possibly the graphics card. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Reset the laptop: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve temporary issues. Try removing the battery (if it's removable) and the power adapter, then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. After that, reconnect the power adapter (without the battery if it's removable) and try turning on the laptop again.
- Check the display connections: If you're comfortable with it, you can try reseating the display cable that connects the screen to the motherboard. This involves opening up the laptop.
- Connect to an external monitor: If you have access to an external monitor, try connecting your laptop to it using an HDMI or VGA cable. This will help determine if the issue is with the laptop's display or with the graphics card.
- Check for BIOS updates: Sometimes, updating the BIOS firmware can resolve certain hardware-related issues. Visit HP's official website, enter your laptop's model number, and check if there are any BIOS updates available for your specific model. Follow the instructions provided by HP to update the BIOS.
- Hardware diagnostics: HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware issues. You can usually access these diagnostics by pressing a specific key during the boot process (often F2 or ESC). Check your laptop's manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to run these diagnostics.
Remember to back up any important data on your laptop before attempting any troubleshooting steps that involve opening up the device or making changes to the software or firmware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
