HP Envy X360 m6-aq103dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop model is HP envy X360 m6-aq103dx

Laptop upon switching on, showing a blue screen with CRITICAL PROCESS DIED  message and then Windows Boot Manager opens with error 0xc0000001,

Windows boot manager also says "after multiple tries the operating system on your pc failed to start so it needs to be repaired".

Before occurance of this problem, I remember doing 2 things which I think caused this problem.

1. Updated HP Bios after many days

2. Created a recovery (as HP Assistant suggested)

On restarting this problem has started.

I have not changed any Hardware in recent past,

I have performed system Diagnosis, Memory test was passed. Hard disk also passed (both quick and extensive)

I tried to recover  "HP Bias" by pressing windows + B + power button, it didn't work.

I tried opening advanced settings. But Windows Recovery Environment is not at all opening.

I tried using USB Flash device but its showing "No boot device found, press any key"

No screen is appearing for automatic repair

Safe boot, Start windows normally are not working.

I tried USB Flash with Legacy on but it also didn't work.

I'm very much worried about my laptop.

Please solve my issue as soon as possible

Thanking you

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand you are getting this error on the computer screen, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Are you able to perform a system restore or system recovery?
  • Have you performed a hardware test on this unit?

A CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error refers to hardware failure, if the system restore or recovery doesn't fix the issue then your computer needs to be repaired. I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out. @Echo_Lake

Thank you for replying

I'm unable to recover using system recovery.

A Hardware Diagnosis is done during boot time and it says no problem with the hardware.

I have done both quick and extensive scan

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts!

The last thing I can suggest trying to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

The Critical Process Died error is a blue screen of death (BSOD) error, that occurs due to corrupt system files, specific Windows updates, faulty program/application or driver, etc. Due to this BSOD error, the Windows may crash, and may lead to a total data loss situation. However, this issue can be fixed applying the the below methods:

1. Update system drivers

2. Perform a clean boot

3. Run SFC command

4. Run DISM to repair corrupted system image

5. Uninstall windows update

6. Uninstall 3rd party software

7. Uninstall drivers

8. Run system restore

9. Reset PC

10. Reinstall Windows

Further, you can also check the below blog for detailed methods to fix the issue:

Hope it helps!
