My laptop is stuck on the preparing automatic repair screen. I ran a system quick test and it Failed on the Hard Drive Short DST Check. What do I do?

I cannot see the photo yet but - if the diagnostics says the hard drive failed the the short test, then the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

I can see the photo now.  It confirms that the hard drive has failed.  There is no other solution but to replace the drive, and then reinstall all the software including Windows.
