envy Touchsmart 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone.  I have a mojor issue with my Envy touchsmart 15. It won't boot. Diagnostics show the memory and hard disk are OK. I have a windows 10 install on a USB but recovery does not let me boot from that media. I've tried booting direct from the usb stick but I just get the HP symbol and teh circle of death. I have downloaded the latest BIOS but am not given the option to flash.

It boots off a Linus mint distrib ona a usb stick!

I've tried pwoering on with windows & B and windows and V held down. Windows B - nothing happens  Windows V gets me back to HP logo and then nothing.

I obvioulsy could stick with Linux        but it's my media PC and I have an application that is not available on Linux.

Any thoughts?  I'm at my wits end....

cheers

@ozthomas

Based on your comments, the Win10 boot media is faulty.  When you boot from that, you should not get the HP logo and circling dots -- doing so means your PC is not booting from that USB stick.

The fact you can boot from the Mint USB shows that booting from USB works.

Quick update  The original error was the blue screen 0xc000000e error.   But I couldn't boot into recovery mode.

Even more worrying, it no longer boots from the Linux media....   It's looking like a dead duck.

OK - I was mistaken - it is booting the Mint distrib.  I have tried 2 windows usb sticks but will try and buold another one.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you know if I can flash the Bios from Linux?

cheers
