Hi @jfd36,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP 17.3-inch Laptop PC 17-c1000 is experiencing a power issue.
Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the laptop from the AC adapter.
- Remove the battery (if it's removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reinsert the battery, connect the AC adapter, and try powering on the laptop.
Check the Power Adapter and Cable:
- Ensure that the AC adapter and power cable are properly connected and not damaged.
- Try using a different AC adapter if available, to rule out an issue with the power supply.
Inspect the RAM:
- Sometimes, faulty or improperly seated RAM can cause boot issues. If you’re comfortable doing so, open the laptop’s access panel, remove the RAM modules, and then reinsert them securely. You may also try booting with just one RAM module if you have more than one.
Check for Loose Connections:
- Make sure all internal components (such as the hard drive and any other connected peripherals) are securely connected.
Disconnect External Devices:
- Remove any external devices (USB drives, external keyboards, etc.) and try turning on the laptop again.
Listen for Beep Codes:
- If your laptop emits a series of beeps when trying to start, these beeps can indicate specific hardware issues. Check the user manual or HP's support site for information on beep codes.
Test with an External Monitor:
- Connect the laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue might be related to the laptop's display.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
