Hi @VLFitz

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that. If your HP 15-d5000 powers on but won’t launch Windows after the latest update, it’s likely due to a corrupted boot configuration, a failed update, or a firmware conflict introduced by the July 2025 Windows 11 KB5062553 update.

Let’s walk through a recovery strategy that doesn’t require access to the desktop.

Step-by-Step Recovery Options

1. Trigger Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Power it on and force shutdown as soon as the HP logo appears.
  • Repeat this 3 times to trigger WinRE.
  • If successful, you’ll see “Choose an option” or “Preparing Automatic Repair”.

From here, try:

  • Startup Repair: Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair
  • System Restore: If restore points exist, this can roll back the update
  • Command Prompt: Use advanced boot repair commands:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

2. BIOS Recovery (if WinRE doesn’t load)

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
  • If successful, the BIOS recovery screen will appear.

3. Boot from Recovery USB

If nothing else works:

  • Create a Windows 11 recovery USB on another PC using the Media Creation Tool.
  • Plug it into your laptop and power on while pressing Esc or F9.
  • Choose Repair your computer, not Install.
  • Use Startup Repair, System Restore, or Command Prompt from there.

Let me know what happens at each step—especially whether WinRE or BIOS recovery appears. If needed, I’ll guide you through creating recovery media or performing a clean reinstall without losing your files. We’ll get your system back up and running.
