i really need to speak with a live person or phone support agent about my HP Pavilion but i don't appreciate having to pay a subscription to even get any kind of support from a real person. How can i contact HP and actually get a live person without having to purchase some upgraded subscription?

Welcome to the HP English Community --
I found public reviews and other information for this system going back to 2015 to about 2019.

It's true that HP Support won't talk to you about out of warranty hardware.
HP Support accepts hardware repair submissions for in-Warranty products.

USA / Canada > HP® Customer Support - USA
UK > HP® Customer Support - UK
HP SmartFriend might talk to you -- with a paid subscription or one time call purchase --
That said, should the question be related to hardware, there is a chance that the help you want is not available.
Be careful -- desperation can lead to making mistakes --
Should you decide to wander out into the Internet seeking "live person" help,
You will find it --
There are so many scam sites that it's hard to keep track of them.
Internet "help site" people will talk to you -- then they will want money and access to your computer.
You can decide to ask for help here in the Community.
We offer online support for free.
It is true that we do NOT offer phone or chat support.
At this writing, all HP Community Agents and Experts who work in the Community are real people.

Out of Warranty? What to do...
For those of us who are "Out of Warranty", submitting a Warranty repair request to HP Support is not an option.
Open your device HP Product Home > Select Category Troubleshooting to find help for common issues.
HP Support does not generally provide free service for out-of-warranty devices.
Our HP Community is not HP Support; we do offer online help free of charge.
Reminder – New Post – Post New Question
When you submit your question to the Community,
Increase your chances of receiving an answer ---
For example,
- Provide the model of the device Product Home and the Operating System / version
- Do NOT include the serial number -- What? We cannot make use of the information and you should never post private information in a public forum.
- As best you can, describe the issue for which you are seeking our help.
- Tell us what you have tried to fix the problem.
