HP Notebook - 15-bw033wm

hii, i️ been having a issue with my main user. i️ cant log into it. for instance ill put in my password but it’ll it wont let me log on. if i go to my guest user and enter the same exact password to get to my settings it’ll let me access. its the same exact password that i️ entered before so i️ have no choice but to use my guest user. I️ dont have the disk to reset my password. i️ was told by a local tech in-store that i️ could reset it through the web, i️ did that but still no success. i️ cant afford to fully reset my computer due to me having important files on my main user. i wish that they still had HP stores around so that i could have the proper help. any suggestions ?

@priii, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your main user profile!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Let’s go through a few steps to see if we can get this sorted without a full reset.

Try Resetting the Password from Another Account

Since you can access the guest user, let’s check if you can create a new password for your main account:

Open Settings (Press Win + I).

Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.

If there’s an option to change your password, try doing so and then log back into your main account.

Use Safe Mode to Log In

Sometimes, a startup issue can cause login problems. Try booting into Safe Mode:

Restart your laptop and keep pressing F8 or Shift + F8 as it boots.

Select Safe Mode with Networking from the options.

Once in Safe Mode, try logging into your main user and check if it accepts the password.

Enable the Built-in Administrator Account

If Safe Mode works, you can enable the built-in Administrator account to fix the issue:

Open Command Prompt (Admin) by searching cmd in the Start menu.

Type: net user Administrator /active:yes and press Enter.

Restart your laptop and log into the new Administrator account.

From there, try resetting your main user’s password.

Let me know how it goes!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
