First off, to answer your question about IDE devices:  hard drives come in two different interface types: SATA (the newer) and IDE (the older).  The first type has plastic tabs on the back with brass contacts; the second has two rows of tiny pins.

These types are NOT interchangeable, so if your PC uses the second, it can not use the first.

Second, we are not  HP Tech Support, instead, we are a bunch of volunteers helping folks to address HP PC issues.  If you want support from HP Tech Support, you would have to contact them through HP Customer Support -- and pay dearly for that.

Third, you have basically tied our hands regarding support.  We have absolutely no way of accessing or diagnosing your PC from here and all we can provide you is links to HP threads and to stuff you can download on other PCs.

IF you want hand-holding, we can not do that and you would have to find a local PC Tech shop and pay them to do it.

I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP
