Microsoft Windows 11

So not long ago I accidentally wiped everything off my laptop trying to install Ubuntu onto an external SSD. Now whenever I try to use a Microsoft installer USB it won't recognize my internal ssd. It also does not let me use my mousepad.

I have managed to download one of the storage drivers to the microsoft usb and got it to work. I got windows 11 using this method. But I want windows 10 and the ability to change again if I want to without having to select drivers every time. What should I do?

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do because the W10/W11 installation media does not contain the storage controllers needed for the Intel 11th > 13th gen core processors.

Until Microsoft updates their installation files on the Media creation tool website, we will always have to load the storage controller drivers on clean installations of Windows on those platforms.

Now there is one thing you can try for W10, and that is to make a bootable USB recovery drive with the HP cloud recovery tool which is supposed to install the original OS, drivers and software that came with the PC.

If HP did not update the recovery image for W11, then you will get W10 without the need to install any storage controller drivers as they are included in the HP image.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.
