Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion 15-aw001nq laptop and it freezes while playing a DVD. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Does this happen with other movie DVDs?
  • Are you sure if the entire laptop freezes or only the application through which the DVD plays stops?
  • Is the DVD drive able to read other (non-movie) DVDs properly?

Meanwhile, if this issue started recently then I suggest you to perform a Microsoft System Restore to roll back the laptop to an earlier date when everything working fine. This will not delete your data. You may perform the steps mentioned under "Restore your computer when Windows starts normally".

Post a successful Microsoft System Restore, if the issue persists then I suggest you to perform the following steps from this HP article:

  • The movie skips, temporarily freezes, or the playback is not smooth.
  • Testing the drive to see if it can read files on the DVD or Blu-ray movie disc.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Good luck! 🙂
