Hi @ShubhG
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Pavilion laptop is experiencing an auto-scrolling issue, which can be caused by software glitches, touchpad settings, or even hardware problems.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve this:
Troubleshooting Steps:
Check for Stuck Keys:
- Inspect your keyboard for any stuck keys, especially the arrow keys or the "Page Down" key. Clean the keyboard gently to ensure no debris is causing the issue.
Disable Touchpad Gestures:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Disable gestures like "Two-Finger Scrolling" or "Edge Scrolling" to see if the issue stops.
Update or Roll Back Touchpad Driver:
- Open Device Manager (press Windows + X and select "Device Manager").
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on your touchpad driver, and select Update Driver.
- If the issue started after a recent update, try rolling back the driver by selecting Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver.
Run HP Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
- Run a touchpad test to check for hardware issues.
Reset Touchpad Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Touchpad Settings.
- Restore the settings to default and test if the issue persists.
Check for Malware:
- Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or another antivirus program to rule out malware causing the auto-scrolling behavior.
Test with an External Mouse:
- Connect an external mouse and disable the touchpad temporarily. If the issue stops, the touchpad might be faulty.
Restore System Settings:
- Use System Restore to revert your laptop to a point before the issue started:
- Press Windows + R, type rstrui, and hit Enter.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to select a restore point.
