Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i have an HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv0000 (9WL72AV). i bought it on feb 2022 and i put windows 10 build 21h2 on it. everything was ok and always the laptop slept when i closed the laptop lid and often i am unplugging it from the charger after i closed the laptop lid. the laptop uses s3 sleep

on nov 2022 i was playing an old game which is for win 98 and i closed the laptop lid while the game was running and i unplugged the laptop from the charger. i came back 2 hours later and i found the laptop off when i opened the laptop lid and that's because the laptop's battery was empty

after that i found the laptop off when i opened the laptop lid once every couple of days. in the end i discovered the problem. sometimes when i closed the laptop lid then it was not going to sleep and the only the screen switched off and then shortly after that laptop fans started spinning on full power and that continued until the laptop battery emptied. i even changed it to do nothing when i closed the laptop lid and then i saw that the laptop fans were making a loud noise when i closed the laptop lid

my theory was that the old game corrupted something in windows when i closed the laptop lid while the game was running so i formatted the laptop 2 weeks ago and i clean installed windows 10 build 22h2

i saw that the laptop switched to s0 sleep after i put windows 10 build 22h2 and then a couple of days later the same problem happened again and the laptop fans made a loud noise when i closed the laptop lid. after that i disabled s0 sleep by editing the registry and that put back s3 sleep. all was ok for 1 week

after that i saw that the pc got dpc watchdog bsod when i closed the laptop lid. i analyzed the dump file by using windbg and i found out that igdkmd64.sys caused the bsod. that file is for intel graphics card driver so it looks like the driver that windows put for me is bad so i updated the driver

a few days later the problem happened again and i saw that the laptop was off after i closed the laptop lid and that's because the laptop didn't go to sleep when i closed the laptop lid and the screen switched off and the laptop fans were on full power until the battery ran out

please see https://windowsreport.com/laptop-battery-drain-sleep/. it says to disable fast startup. fast startup was disabled before and after i clean installed windows. it says to disable hibernate. hibernate was disabled before i clean installed windows. i disabled hibernate after the problem happened after i clean installed windows. it also says that a faulty battery can cause the problem. i dont think that the battery is faulty. it doesnt drain fast when i use the laptop when its unplugged

also please see the first reply here https://www.quora.com/My-laptops-battery-drains-even-when-it-is-in-sleep-mode-Is-it-a-hardware-probl.... the guy blamed the problem on "Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled. PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer." and he said to set link state power management to max power savings. i had set it to off before i clean installed windows and it didnt cause me any problems before i closed the laptop lid while the old game was running. i also set it to off after i clean installed windows. i changed it to max power saving like the guy said and i am still getting that error

also please see https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/SOLVED-Windows-10-Laptop-won-t-go-into-sle.... it says to use mei driver version 9.5. i was on a newer version which windows put for me. i went back to the old version which is on the drivers page in the hp website for my laptop. i tried to install sp66228.exe. it's not supported for me

why is the laptop not going to sleep when i close the laptop lid? can a hardware problem cause it or it's a windows problem? i am using kaspersky internet security. can that not let the laptop go to sleep when i close the laptop lid?
